ISO stands for the Insurance Services Office.
All fire departments are subjected to an ISO rating. The official name for this rating is the Public Protection Classification or PPC, but it’s informally called a fire score.
The PPC score is a rating of how efficiently your fire department serves your local community.
A departments ISO score is based on several categories. Categories with the most influence on the score includes water supply, training, number of personnel and deployment stats.
An ISO rating is a measure of a fire department’s ability to serve its community.
There are 839 fire departments in Tennessee.
The average ISO rating for TN departments in 2022 was 56, our score was 54 (lower is better).
